What is Volunteering?

A volunteer is a person, like you and I,  who choose freely without any pressure to get involved locally in their community to support the activities of a not for profit charity/voluntary group of their choice. The range of groups and local volunteering opportunities in Kerry is huge!

The role of the Kerry Volunteer Centre Placement Team is to help you to make the volunteering choice that are right for you, the suit your interests, match your availability and fulfill your aspirations!

As such, the Placement Team supports individuals who wish to volunteer Kerry Volunteer Centre’s team with:

  • One to one advice on how to become a Volunteer
  • Information on available volunte opportunities
  • Brokerage to enable commencement of volunteer placement
  • Follow up support once Volunteering has commenced
Volunteering is more formally defined as “the commitment of time and energy, for the benefit of the society and the community, the environment or individuals outside one’s immediate family.” It is undertaken freely and by choice, without concern for financial gain, yet volunteering should not cost you money and that is why out of pocket expenses are reimbursed where possible by volunteer involving organisations.
