Kerry Volunteer Centre is delighted to announce that a Kerry volunteer, Dermot Crowley, has been shortlisted amongst the 33 volunteers shortlist for the 15th annual Volunteer Ireland Awards taking place this Friday 2nd December in the Carlton Hotel, Blanchardstown, Dublin.
Dermot has been volunteering with Recovery Haven Cancer Support House for almost 10 years. A former Treasurer and Board Director, Dermot is now a valued member of both the Fundraising & Events Committee and the Finance & Fundraising Sub-committee. He is also a member of the Men’s Cancer Support Group and is always there to talk to a new person and support the men in the group.
Commenting on the shortlist, Kerry Volunteer Centre Manager, Geraldine O Sullivan, said: “Volunteering is at the heart of so many of our communities across Kerry. In many cases we rely on volunteers like Dermot to support the delivery of vital services. As well as volunteering with Recovery Haven, Dermot also gives his time freely to several other local community projects, including his local football club in The Spa, The Churchill Forge Heritage Project, Ballymacelligott CE Scheme, and his local church. These awards give us an opportunity to recognise the passion and dedication of people like Dermot who give so much to others. I’d like to congratulate Dermot and all of this year’s nominees.”
Each of the shortlisted 33 nominees will be invited to share the celebration where Volunteer Ireland will announce the winners in each category and name Ireland’s Volunteer of the Year for 2022, which celebrates the commitment and dedication of volunteers across Ireland.
The Volunteer Ireland Awards are kindly supported by the Department of Rural and Community Development, which recognises the importance of volunteers in our communities. As Minister of State for Community Development and Charities, Mr. Joe O’ Brien TD said: “The challenges we have faced in recent years have shown us just how resilient our volunteers are and how much we, as a country, rely on them. Without their selfless contribution of time and energy, many of the supports we value as a society would not happen. Today’s shortlist announcement highlights the vital role volunteers play at the heart of their communities. I am delighted that my Department plays a key role in supporting volunteering and the Volunteer Ireland Awards, and I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all the nominees.”
Volunteer Ireland has also partnered once again with Healthy Ireland, who share in the belief that volunteering contributes to healthier, happier, and more connected communities. Minister of State for Public Health, Wellbeing and the National Drugs Strategy, Mr. Frank Feighan TD said: “Healthy Ireland has long been a supporter of the work done by volunteers in supporting healthy, happy and resilient communities, which has a huge impact for the sectors involved and their communities. This year the shortlist recognises some truly inspiring work by the nominees and I’m delighted that Healthy Ireland can partner with Volunteer Ireland in delivering these awards.”
