Kerry Volunteer Centre hosted a National Volunteering Week celebratory event on Wednesday, May 13th at Tralee Bay Wetlands, in appreciation of Volunteering in Kerry.
On the day, the sun was shining which served to highlight the natural beauty of the area and create a celebratory atmosphere.
The event was attended by numerous volunteers and representatives from organisations such as Tralee Chamber Alliance, Amnesty International, Tralee Diverse Writers Group, Enable Ireland, HSE-Mental Health Services, Action Lesetho and Tralee Community Garden.
It was apparent from the conversations taking place around the tables that there is a shared passion and appreciation for Volunteers. A lot of discussion took place around what drives people to volunteer, the different types of volunteering and how to retain volunteers.
A popular opinion amongst attendees was that time is a very generous gift to give and a lot of Volunteer Involving Organisations depend on much needed extra help from Volunteers to keep their services going. This echoed the ethos of National Volunteering week which is all about getting involved in volunteering and appreciating the wonderful contribution that volunteers make across County Kerry and nationally.
