Job Vacancy at Kerry Volunteer Centre

Kerry Volunteer Centre’s is proactive, pioneering and determined in its purpose to enable, promote and support Volunteering in Kerry. Since establishment in 2003, Kerry Volunteer Centre has been locally and nationally at the forefront of developments to advance and strengthen Volunteering.   • Job Title: Acting Manager
  • Reporting to: Board of Kerry Volunteer Centre
  • Hours/contract: Full time (35 hrs per week), maternity leave fixed term from 5th January
  • Location: Kerry VC Tralee Office, 7 Maine Street, Tralee, Co Kerry (travel will be necessary)
  • Salary: 31-36K, pro rata, depending on experience.

Purpose of role: The Acting Manager will assist the Board in implementing its vision for Kerry Volunteer Centre. She/He will lead the organisation in implementing the 2015 Workplan and strategic plans as agreed by the Board. The Acting Manger will be accountable for achieving targets, managing financial and human resources and implementing sound corporate governance and compliance requirements. Within the budgets set by the Board, she/he will ensure that Kerry Volunteer Centre has the resources, competencies, systems, procedures and practices necessary to deliver its suits of local support services for Volunteering in Kerry.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Provide leadership to Kerry Volunteer Centre in pursuit of its mission, advising the Board in the development of strategy and leading the implementation of approved strategies, policies and plans.
  • Implement agreed systems and procedures for legal, financial, human resource management and corporate governance compliance, and be directly accountable to the Board for the performance, implementation and quality assurance of such systems and procedures, as well as the organisation’s performance against strategic objectives, activities and agreed targets as set out in the 2015 Workplan.
  • Build the profile and reputation of Kerry Volunteer Centre, representing the organisation to key stakeholders locally and nationally and ensuring the work of the Volunteer Centre is responsibly and effectively communicated and promoted to key audiences.
  • Be an effective and inspiring leader of staff and volunteers within Kerry Volunteer Centre, nurturing a strong sense of team-work, maximising the skill sets of staff, implementing a culture of on-going development and improvement.
  • Manage the ongoing recruitment, induction, training, support and supervision of employees, Community Employment Participants, Interns and Volunteers so as to ensure Kerry Volunteer Centre has ample human resources to implement the 2015 Workplan and advance service delivery.
  • Build, maintain and manage partnerships, alliances and relationships within and across the community and voluntary sector and beyond, including but not limited to: volunteer-involving organisations, volunteers, funders, sponsors and regulators.
  • Advocate for volunteering and volunteering infrastructure in Kerry to maximise awareness and influence public policy.
  • Deliver training and mentoring support services to volunteer involving organisations in the areas such as Volunteer Management, Governance and the Charities Act.
  • Be responsible for the overall financial health, banking, payroll, auditing and sustainability of the organisation.
  • Preparing and presenting regular work and financial reports to the Board to ensure the organisation’s strategies are being met and finances are controlled and within budget
  • Maximise income-generating opportunities and identify and secure appropriate sources of funding.
  • Be responsible for the preparation of the 2014 Annual Report, 2014 Audited Accounts, midyear Government Reports and all Company Registration Office reporting.
  • Monitor legislative developments, public consultation campaigns and local/national events impacting upon the activities of the Volunteer Centre, its service users and local Volunteering with a view to inputting into/communicating/acting on these as necessary and appropriate.
  • Arrange for the promotion of volunteering and the Volunteer Centre at relevant events throughout Kerry and in the local media.
  • Oversee compliance with and implementation of all operational procedures and policies.
  • Enable registered services users to evaluate and feedback on the effectiveness of the Volunteer Centre services and staff.
  • Analyse and monitor the work of the Volunteer Centre to meet best practice standards and to ensure effective outcomes for service users.
  • Develop contacts and/or enter into arrangements, with Board approval, beneficial to the Volunteer Centre , with relevant individuals and groups
  • Ensure that the Volunteer Centre’s website is kept updated with blogs, articles, upcoming KVC events, publications, resources etc.
  • Carry out such other duties as are considered necessary and appropriate, in consultation with the Board.

The above is not an exhaustive list of duties and you will be expected to perform different tasks as necessitated by your changing role within the organisation and the overall business objectives of Kerry Volunteer Centre.

Knowledge and Experience Required

The Acting Manager will be a strongly motivated person, with a strong sense of commitment to the ideas and values inherent in the work of Kerry Volunteer Centre. She/He will have enthusiasm and drive, with a capacity to plan and lead, while also deriving satisfaction from being a member of a productive and focused team.

The candidate should be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Third-level or equivalent qualification relevant to the role of Manager.
  • Management experience and ability to manage multiple projects at once.
  • Experience of building, managing and nurturing partnerships and relationships across a wide range of key stakeholders.
  • Strong analytic, report writing, strategic, organisational, governance and financial skills.
  • Ability to identify and secure sources of funding.
  • Leadership and people management skills including harnessing and leveraging the input and contribution of staff and volunteers, developing competences and performance.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to and experience of organising and delivering training events for community and voluntary groups.
  • Ability to being innovative, determined and effective when faced with changing and/or conflicting demands and priorities.
  • Strong interpersonal and motivational skills
  • Self-motivated and takes personal responsibility for getting things done.
  • Excellent IT and administration skills, including MS Word, Excel and Power Point.
  • In depth knowledge of local community and voluntary sector and commitment to volunteering.
  • Full clean driving licence and access to own transport for service delivery.
