The Volunteer Charter

The Volunteer Charter

The Volunteer Charter aims to foster strong, successful partnerships and enhance the volunteering experience by promoting clarity, trust, and mutual respect between Volunteer Involving Organisations (VIOs) and Volunteers.  Kerry Volunteer Centre held a local Kerry launch of Irelands’ latest resource to strengthen volunteering  “The Volunteer Charter” in Kerry during National Volunteering Week on Monday the 19th of May 2025 with both Volunteers and Volunteer Involving Organisations in attendance.

The Volunteer Charter is a two-part document, one for organisations and one for volunteers, outlining the expectations for both sides when a volunteer is considering joining a VIO. The creation of The Volunteer Charter is part of a broader effort to support and promote volunteering in Ireland, aligning with the National Volunteering Strategy (2021-2025).

By reviewing and embracing The Volunteer Charter, you’re laying the groundwork for meaningful, impactful and mutually beneficial volunteering relationships.  It’s not just about communicating, exploring and setting expectations—it’s about nurturing trust, clarity, and mutual respect from the beginning. When both VIOs and Volunteers commit to following The Volunteer Charter, an authentic healthy foundation that enhances the quality of every volunteering experience and relationship is built.
