Job Description – Kerry Volunteer Centre – Volunteering Development Officer

Job Status This is a four day a week, (Tuesday to Friday) position a for a fixed 3 year period, June 2018 to June 2021 subject to

funding from the Department of Community & Rural Affairs, with a 9 month probationary period.

Reporting to: Manager, Kerry Volunteer Centre (CVC)

Annual Leave: 28 days pro rata

Salary: €28,000 pro rata

Place of work: Mainly at the Kerry Volunteer Centre office in Tralee, yet there may be regular off-site work involved regionally in Munster, nationally in Dublin and locally on an outreach basis in Kerry.  

Hours of work : 28 hours per week. Out-of-office hours and weekend work will be required. Time in Lieu system in operation.

Travel: The post requires a valid driving licence and the use of a car. Travel Allowance operates.

Key Responsibilities

  • To develop, implement and review volunteering strategies that advance Volunteering and serve to develop volunteering in Kerry.
  • To provide brokerage services between members of the public who wish to volunteer and Volunteer Involving Organisations.
  • To deliver follow up support services that enhance the volunteer’s placement experience.
  • To adhere to the organisations culture and team dynamic in the performance of your role.
  • To identify the emerging needs of Volunteers and develop appropriate service responses.
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders to develop and implement work-plans
  • Participate in national Volunteer Centre/Volunteer Ireland working groups and initiatives to develop the local and national volunteering infrastructure
  • To keep accurate and methodical records to ensure effective reporting, Customer Relationship Management and good governance.
  • To contribute to evaluation, meetings and reports as required.
  • Represent Kerry Volunteer Centre on relevant fora and to the public in general
  • Other activities as may be necessary for the continued success of the Volunteer Centre or as directed by management.

Skills and Experience

  • Strong communication skills and wide ranging public relations experiences.
  • Verifiable ability to successfully lead, develop, deliver and evaluate on projects involving a very wide range of individuals and organisations.
  • Experience of working within a quality management systems and frameworks.
  • Experience of delivering training, organising training workshops and group facilitation.
  • Experience of engaging, influencing and relationship building with different stakeholders:
  • Established networking and presentation skills.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Excellent computer literacy, social media and general administrative skills.
  • Effective reporting and evaluation skills.
  • Knowledge of GDPR and it impacts.
  • Knowledge of using CRM systems (ideally Salesforce).

Knowledge and Qualifications

  • Relevant Business Degree
  • 3 years relevant experience is desirable
  • Knowledge of how the voluntary/community sector works, including an understanding of volunteering, equal opportunities and social inclusion issues.
  • Public Relations and marketing experience
